Split payment: automatic tax collection system unlikely to be ready by early 2027

The automatic tax collection system provided for under the Tax Reform, known as split payment, is not expected to be fully operational by January 2027, when the collection of CBS and IBS begins.

In practice, split payment will allow the portion corresponding to taxes to be automatically separated at the time a transaction is paid and transferred directly to the tax authorities. The measure is considered one of the main operational changes introduced by the Reform, as it changes the way consumption taxes will be collected.

However, implementation of the system still depends on technical and operational adjustments involving the government, the IBS Management Committee, financial institutions, payment service providers, and technology companies.

For businesses, this issue requires attention, particularly due to its potential impact on cash flow, financial reconciliation, payment systems, and the calculation of tax credits.

Even though the implementation of split payment will be gradual, it is important for companies to monitor upcoming regulations and review their internal processes in order to prepare more securely for the transition to CBS and IBS.
